My Review

As I said before I really enjoyed Daughter of Mine by Megan Miranda and found it to be a medium-paced thriller with lots of twists and turns that keep you guessing. I also really enjoyed the main cast of characters and found their experience as children and adults to be really relatable. Blended families are an interesting topic and often not an easy one. I enjoyed the different dynamics between the characters and how they spoke more about their past together rather than their present. I also found it interesting how it took the death of the glue of this family to bring them all back together again.

I don’t want to get too much into the book because it was released pretty recently, and I would honestly recommend picking this one up. I totally felt throughout the book that I had an idea of where things were going or who did what, but I was always wrong. I really enjoyed the way the book played out and while I didn’t see it coming enjoyed the shock factor when the big secret was finally exposed. Overall I gave Daughter of Mine by Megan Miranda a 8/10 rating. I honestly don’t have much critique on the book. I found it to be an easy-to-follow mystery with a decent cast of characters to follow along. I enjoyed the small-town feel to things because it often created this sense of tension or suspense when it came to who knew what, and why they were hiding the secrets in the first place.

Daughter of Mine by Megan Miranda follows Hazel as she returns home for her stepfather’s funeral. Perry Holt’s death was unexpected to all of his children and his loss is heavy on them. Hazel wonders if this is where she will finally break off from the family forever, however, her father has some other ideas. Leaving his house for Hazel after his passing she is now forced to go back home with her step-brothers Gage and Caden. However Gage and specifically Caden are not too impressed given that Hazel isn’t Perry’s biological child and came into their lives when her mother married him when she was a child. So why did he leave the house to Hazel? Hoping to rid her hands of the house Hazel finds herself being pulled even further when her niece discovers something at the bottom of the water that’s on her father’s property. Once the car is unearthed along with many questions Hazel stays home in hopes of finding answers, but finds many things are standing her way. A whole small town filled with long-standing politics, secrets, and ideas on who to protect, taints her ability to find the truth. With family history, personal struggles, and a town full of secrets, it’s a mystery you can’t pull away from and want to find out all the answers to.

I really enjoyed the characters in the book and felt like they made this a really strong read. It’s a bit of a boring setting, a quiet small town with not a lot going on, but it’s the people that bring it to life in this book. The long withstanding history they all have together, and the secrets they know about each other make it so this boring setting isn’t so boring at all. It was interesting to see how with the loss of Perry so many things started to crumble, and it’s clear all he wants is for his kids to be together. The mystery itself is really interesting, and while I can’t give too many details because it would give a lot away just know that the mystery really picks up and once it does it doesn’t stop until the end. Given the small cast of characters, there was only a set few people to have done the thing, and I had a totally different idea of who it was before it was exposed. Totally had me fooled.

I got through this book pretty quickly so if you are looking to pick up a fun mystery thriller I would definitely recommend picking Daughter of Mine by Megan Miranda.
